主持人：腾讯的网友大家好，欢迎大家来到腾讯的访谈间，坐在我身边的这位是英国拉夫堡大学国际办公室主任Charlie。你好Charlie，可以跟腾讯的网友打个招呼吗？

Charlie: Hi，My name is Charlie Carter, and I am the Director of the International Office at Loughborough University.

Loughborough University is one of the highest-ranking universities in the UK with a campus in the centre of the UK and a campus in London.

主持人：Congratulations on your winning this “Tencent Award for Favorite UK University among Chinese Families”. And could you please introduce your institute firstly?

Charlie: Loughborough University has been educating students in the UK for over one hundred years and we're really pleased to win this award

in China. In the UK we have won many awards - we're top ten in all the league tables in the UK, have a TEF Gold Award for our teaching, we are Top10 in England for research intensity and number one for the best student experience. We're very well-known in the UK.

It seems now we are also now well-known in China and are delighted to receive this award, as a consequence. We have a large international community at Loughborough,

and the Chinese students are very important and big part of that community.

主持人：And as we know, education in all areas have been developing very fast recently. And could you please share us and achievement of your institution and especially in China.

Charlie: Loughborough University is a well-known campus university. It was the first university of technology in the UK. In China, it's quite normal for a university to have a large campus. In the UK, that's not so normal. We have a large campus and we are well-known for subjects such as engineering, business, communication and media studies, social sciences. I think you're aware of that side of things.

The good thing about Loughborough is that because of our strong engineering and business background, it means that we always apply our studies to the real world.

Therefore, Loughborough University is very well known for the employability of our students. We ensure our students not only get a good education, but they also find a good job afterwards.

主持人： What is the biggest gain for your university in the year of twenty eighteen?

Charlie: I think we have done really well. We offer a strong academic education for our students, and an excellent university experience. Our students come in with high grades and leave with excellent Degree awards.

主持人：Can you tell us some details for different subjects？

可以举例介绍一下拉夫堡大学的优势学科吗？

Charlie: We have many subjects, let’s consider business. We have a lot of people coming in with triple As for our Business School and leaving with Firsts or 2:1s. But aside from the education, they also get involved outside of studies. Loughborough University is really well known for sports. It's the number one sports university in the world. People get involved outside of their education in many things.

We have the biggest careers fair of any UK university and all our undergraduate students get the option of spending one year working in industry in addition to their studies.

Even though we're not a big city like Manchester or Birmingham, more employers want to meet our students on campus than any other university. We are very pleased about that side of things. In two thousand eighteen, we've obviously got our top five or ten ranking in all national university league tables. What we're looking to do now is increase our international QS ranking by developing many more international research partnerships with Chinese universities, as well as others, from all around the world.

主持人： In which city maybe?

Charlie: We already work with Tsinghua, we already work with Tongji, we already work with Shanghai Jiao Tong university. We work with many, many different university partners in China, and we also work with some excellent private sector partners such as Golden Arrow, one of our top international recruitment partners here, and we've been working with GA for twenty years.

I think when we work with our partners in China, the most important thing for us is it's not just business. They're also friends and these are the guys that represent Loughborough in China. And we like working with our friends here.

我们已经与清华大学，同济大学，上海交通大学等许多不同的中国大学建立了合作。我们还与一些优秀的私营企业合作，比如金矢集团，是我们在中国最大的合作伙伴之一，我们已经与金矢合作了20年。

我认为，当我们与中国的合作伙伴合作时，对我们来说最重要的不仅仅是业务。他们也是朋友，是拉夫堡在中国的代表。我们想在这里和我们的朋友一起工作。

主持人：And how do you perceive the current education market?

您对当前的教育市场怎么看？

Charlie：I think it's quite tough. I mean if you're a Chinese student, you've got lots of opportunities.

You can obviously study at excellent universities in China or you can study excellent universities in the UK or Australia or the US.

I think the most important thing is that you look at three areas: 1. your education, that is to say the academic standard of education you will receive, 2. the student experience and the people that you will meet, and 3. the soft skills you get above your education which of course improves your employability. If you're going to invest

twenty thousand pounds in tuition fees and another twenty thousand pounds to live in the UK, it is a big investment in your future.

The most important thing is that you get a strong return on your investment. Also, your education will set you up with friendships and a career for life afterwards.

这是个竞争很激烈的市场。如果你是一名中国学生，你有很多机会。你可以在中国的一些优秀大学学习，也可以在英国，澳大利亚和美国的优秀大学学习。

主持人： Yes. And what kind of opportunities do we need to seize？

拉夫堡大学目前面临什么样的机遇？

Charlie: Well, we're here with Tencent, we are here with WeChat. I think there will be many digital technology opportunities in the future. We need to think about how we internationalise all aspects of education, that's obviously having different nationalities of students, also making sure the curriculum is international, and also that British students go overseas to places like China as well as Chinese students coming to the UK. I think the most important thing in the future is that the world is a global school, and we need to seize those opportunities to develop international partnerships and to ensure that business flows freely across different countries in the future.

主持人：And with support and recognition Tencent users, especially Chinese students and parents play an important part in helping you to win this award. And what would you like to say to them?

Charlie: Well, I would like to say a big thank you on behalf of the University. I think the most important thing for us is when we were working with UK parents and UK students, they get the opportunity to come onto our campus before their studies. Usually when you get to experience the Loughborough campus - which is a large green area, very safe, you get to mix very quickly with all the British and international students - very often people will say, right, this is the University that I want to come too.

The Chinese students, the Tencent parents, they don't usually get the opportunity to come to the Loughborough campus in advance. I encourage all our students and parents to come and visit Loughborough campus and we will give you a very warm welcome in return.

On behalf of Loughborough University, we are absolutely delighted. We recognise what a big

brand Tencent is and how important our international students and parents are to us.

We're very grateful for the award. We will continue to offer good value for money in terms of our education, in terms of our safety, and in terms of the employability prospects of our students. I hope this reassures the students’ parents!
